Welcome to Grade 2! I am very happy to finally be here at Beddington and thrilled to spend the year with your children.
This past week has been a very busy one. In literacy we started talking about the Daily 5. We set up a wall with expectations that we developed together and went through the variety of activities that will help build our reading and writing skills over the year. We also explored long and short vowel sounds and arranging words into alphabetical order.
In math we started repeating patterns. We discussed the different types of patterns and create some of our own. I encourage you to help your child search for patterns in your home, at the park, or elsewhere in the community that they can share, in class, this week.
We have begun exploring magnets in science. We made a KWL chart, followed by a Bill Nye video that we watched with the other Grade 2 classes and a response in our sketchbooks. This week we will start experimenting with magnets, so stay tuned to hear about our discoveries!
On Friday, we had our welcome back assembly. We got to meet all the teachers and new students that are joining us at Beddington this year. We can't wait to explore, discover, learn, and have fun in Grade 2!
Reminders:
Tuesday is our welcome back BBQ lunch. Also, is you have not returned your technology form, please do so ASAP as students cannot use the IPads or computers until it is returned.
