Happy Monday! Today was a very busy day and we all worked really hard.
We started the Daily 5 program this morning. We each got to chose an activity (either work word, writing practice, read to someone, or read to self) that we did for 10 minutes.
We also started looking at word wall words today. There are 10 words, which we wrote down and are bringing home today to practice all week. As we were talking about long and short vowel sounds last week, we noticed that all of the words have a short vowel sound. Be sure to practice the words at home too; practice spelling them, using them in sentences, finding rhymes, etc. Our words are:
-on
-not
-but
-at
-had
-in
-did
-get
-red
-hot
Phys Ed was a lot of fun today! We got to be creative and do equipment exploration. There were five stations set up around the gym and at each station and we got to explore all the different ways to use the equipment.
In math, we continued looking at repeating patterns. Today we learned about the terms core, pattern rule, and attributes. We used linking cubes to create and write down a variety of patterns that each had different pattern rules and attributes.
Finally, in science we were given a bunch of magnets that we got to experiment with. Our task was to walk around the classroom and find all the things that could and could not stick to the magnets. We followed with a discussion on what we noticed about magnets; i.e., what they stick and don't stick to (objects and materials), as well as all the different ways they can be used in everyday life. Can you help us think of where else magnets can be and are used around our house and community?
