Today in literacy we working on our writing skills. As we wrote out our new word wall words, in a list to bring home and in our journals with sentences, we were being aware of staying within the lines, printing neatly, and using spaces between the words. Our new words this week are:
-his
-is
-an
-and
-can
-all
-call
-land
-hand
-small
We talked about family words today because our words this week are full of them! We recognized the families; is, and, an, and all.
In math, we continued repeating patterns, but today we started to learn all about increasing patterns. At first we discussed what we thought increasing patterns means, some ideas we said are:
-making patterns bigger
-making then grow longer
-making patterns harder
-adding more to a pattern
So far, we have discovered that it is similar to skip counting were a pattern slowing grows as it is repeated. It can increase by 1s, 2s, 3s, and so on.
Now that we have found a new, magnetic wrapper for Mr. Wonka's new candy bar, we still need to find a material that will allow the magnetic force to attract around. So today, we explored magnets passing through different materials. The materials we tested were; thin plastic, hard plastic, wood, aluminum, paper, fabric, felt, and cardboard. Following the experiment and a long discussion over each material, altogether, we came to the conclusion that the thin plastic was the best material to use. It is thin, flexible, waterproof, and all strengths of magnets can pass through it. All of these characteristics offer a durable and reliable option for a new candy bar cover that will travel all around the world.
