Today was a busy day. We got a new student in our class and we all did a fantastic job at making her feel welcome as she is settling into the new routine.
For literacy, we continued to discuss family words within our word wall words by creating lists in our books of all the words that belong to their respective family. As we are improving our writing skills (putting spaces between our words, using proper punctuation, and writing neater), today we discussed adjectives.
We learned that adjectives are describing words and can be used anytime we are writing to make it more detailed and juicy. Also, that thinking about our 5 senses, touch, hearing, taste, smell, and sight, can help us to come up with good adjectives to use when describing something or events in our writing.
To practice using adjectives, we looked at a few different pictures and had to come up with words that would best describe each picture, again thinking about our 5 senses.
We had library again today. It is very important that we try to remember to turn those library books back in on the correct day so that we can sign out a new one.
In math, we continued increasing patterns. On the projector, together, we extended a variety of increasing patterns using different attributes as well as stating the pattern rule.
Tomorrow is Run for Terry Fox Day! The school is doing a fundraiser there will be prizes for certain amounts of money raised. As a class, we watched a short documentary on Terry Fox. We learned all about why he ran across the country and what some of his goals were.
Keeping in the spirit of Terry Fox we ask that everyone wear blue or pink for cancer or, if you do not have either of those colors, tomorrow is also a day of awareness of the harm towards Aboriginals when they were forced into residential schools; orange is the color of awareness there.
Reminders:
-Swimming starts Thursday. Please have your child come to school with their bathing suit on, as well as have a towel and plastic bag for the wet items after swimming.
