A Good Day!

Tomorrow is our word wall quiz! Please help me practice tonight so I can try my best on the quiz.

Group A: tell, bell, ship, wish, the, that, then, sat, ball, mall
Group B: shout, about, house, our, out, now, down, slow, show, how

Next week is another short week, but we will be doing the 50 word quiz because we missed it last week.. Oops!

For the remainder of the day we worked through a tough introduction to a new unit on.. Questioning.
After Phys. Ed. we each had a container of play-dough on our desk. As we came in Mrs. G said nothing at all! We starting asking questions, she wouldn't answer them, Mrs. G just typed them on the computer. We were so confused!
After a few minutes, we met at the carpet and read a story, The Emperor's Cool Clothes by Lee Harper. Before, throughout, and after the story we noticed Mrs. G would stop and ask questions, but not answer them. Still confusing us..
Finally, we had a discussion and discovered that we are going to do some work around questioning; asking questions while reading, doing research on jobs, for an author study, and of course everywhere else in school and real life. Because asking questions helps us to get answers and information. Ask me what the different kinds of questions we can ask..??
To end the day, after music, Mrs. G let us build our word wall word with the play-dough. She thought it was amazing that the containers sat on our desks all day without a single person opening them (at no point did she say we couldn't open them...)

Thursday and Friday

The past few days have been busy!

Yesterday morning we had literacy centers with the Grade 1s. There was Bingo, Bananagrams, play-dough words, and more. Take a look!

We are also wrapping up our 2D shapes unit. The final project was to create a picture of a scene from The One and Only Ivan, using 2D shapes! We got to trace or free hand the shapes with a bunch of different colors and past them on a black backdrop. They look so neat!
Take a look at what we started below.

For the afternoon we extended our learning on Martin Luther King Jr. by brainstorming what freedom and peace mean to us, and then writing about it in our journals. Some of us came up with our own ideas and some related it back to what we learned from the books.

Today, was a fun half day. Another friend has joined our class, please help us in welcoming him!

We all did a fantastic job at Mission Impossible.

For the remainder of the day we continued to work on our Ivan 2D art and other ketchups.

Reminders:
-Please, please, please send back any work back to school! It is very hard for me to send home reading home if it is not being returned on a daily basis. It is also hard to mark any completed work if it is not at school.
-Report card will be going home Friday, January 29
-Fun lunch is Thursday, January 28

Have a great weekend!! :)

Mission Impossible

We have been practicing our word wall words a lot because they are pretty tricky this week. Once we completed our sentences we got to choose how to practice them including on whiteboard, with popsicle sticks, with pipe cleaners, in rainbow write, etc.
Can you please help me practice at home too??

In Phys. Ed we started Mission Impossible! It is a really fun course. For today the boys spotted the girls and then the girls spotted the boys. We got to go wherever we wanted just to get a feel for the different challenges. Tomorrow we will start the real deal!
Take a look at the photos below to see what the course looks like and how some of us did!

This afternoon we got together with the other Grade 2s. Mr. Fisher read us a couple stories about Martin Luther King (because yesterday was MLK Day). Following the stories, we shared with a friend 3 things we learned or found interesting, then we wrote about them in our journals. We also started to write about what freedom and peace mean to us.

To end the day we read more of The One and Only Ivan. He has been moved from the Mall! He is now in the zoo with other gorillas!! Tomorrow we will find out if he enjoys his new home.

Reminders:
- Home Reading!! Please return to school tomorrow!
- Fun lunch forms are due Thursday
